WHO WE ARE

PACE (Philanthropy for Active Civic Engagement) is a community of funders working together to strengthen American democracy through active civic participation. At a time when many Americans feel disconnected from one another and uncertain that democracy can deliver, we believe something different is possible. We believe democracy is strongest when people feel a sense of belonging, take responsibility for the future we share, and work together to shape it. That’s the work we’re here to support.

PACE brings together funders from across the country—and across differences in geography, ideology, and experience—to learn with purpose, collaborate across differences, and experiment boldly in service of a more resilient, participatory civic life.

Together, our members:

  • – Learn from one another and from the field
  • – Explore what’s working and what’s not
  • – Take informed risks and test new approaches
  • – Come together to act on the challenges facing our democracy and civic life

Our strategy focuses on four priorities:

  • – Deepening member engagement
  • – Building coalitions for action
  • – Strengthening the civic field
  • – Shaping a unifying civic narrative

THE ROLE

PACE aims to be the place where funders come not just to learn, but to find one another, take action together, and help renew the civic life that makes democracy possible. The Program Associate will play an important role in making that happen.

Working closely with colleagues across the organization, the Program Associate will support PACE’s programs, member engagement, communications, and internal systems. They will help create high-quality experiences for members, capture and share what we are learning, keep projects moving, and strengthen the systems behind our work, including the implementation of our new Salesforce CRM.

This is a role for someone who enjoys connecting dots, managing details, working across functions, and helping meaningful work come to life. It offers the opportunity to contribute across the organization while developing a broad understanding of civic philanthropy and a strong network of funders working to strengthen democracy and civic life.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Support Member Experiences and Learning
  • – Contribute to the design of a programming agenda for members
  • – Coordinate program logistics, including invitations, registration, materials, technology, and follow-up, for in-person and virtual member experiences
  • – Capture insights from PACE programming into useful briefs, summaries, presentations, and other resources for members and partners
  • – Track member participation and interests to identify opportunities for deeper engagement and connection
  • – Support new member onboarding and ongoing relationship-building

Strengthen Our Data and Systems
  • – Play a key role in PACE’s transition to Salesforce, helping migrate, organize, clean, and maintain member and program data
  • – Support membership updates, renewals, and related processes
  • – Identify opportunities to use data and technology to simplify workflows, strengthen coordination, and improve the member experience

Keep Programs and Projects Moving
  • – Contribute to the planning, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation of programs, initiatives, campaigns, and special projects
  • – Support the development of proposals, reports, and other grant materials
  • – Provide administrative and logistical support where needed to ensure high-quality program design and execution

Support Communications and Information Exchange
  • – Follow members’ social media accounts and other communications platforms to stay abreast of their priorities and interests
  • – Contribute to the development of member- and field-facing communications, including newsletters, invitations, program updates, and follow-up materials
  • – Strengthen PACE’s digital presence, including website and social media content as needed
  • – Help ensure information flows effectively across strategy and learning, member engagement, communications, and operations

WHAT YOU BRING

You don’t need to have done everything on this list. We’re looking for someone who brings many of these skills and is eager to develop the rest:

  • – Approximately 2–5 years of relevant professional experience in a nonprofit, philanthropic, civic, public-sector, or similarly mission-driven environment
  • – Experience supporting programs, events, initiatives, or projects from planning through execution
  • – Strong writing, editing, and communication skills, with the ability to adapt content for different audiences and formats
  • – An ability to synthesize information, identify what matters, and make it useful to others
  • – Strong organizational and project-management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and follow through on details
  • – Comfort moving between different kinds of work—from program coordination and writing to data management and relationship support
  • – Curiosity about people and an instinct for making connections among ideas, organizations, and opportunities
  • – Sound judgment, resourcefulness, and a willingness to take initiative
  • – Comfort learning and using technology and an interest in helping build effective systems and workflows; experience with Salesforce is not required but strongly preferred
  • – An interest in civic engagement, philanthropy, democracy, or strengthening communities
  • – Comfort working in a fast-moving, evolving environment where not everything has been figured out in advance

WORKING AT PACE

PACE is a small, collaborative, and mission-driven team. Because we are a small organization with ambitious goals, everyone contributes beyond a narrowly defined lane. We value colleagues who are generous with one another, willing to pitch in, and excited to help make both the work and the organization stronger.

We care about:

  • – Doing meaningful, high-quality work
  • – Building strong relationships
  • – Staying curious and learning as we go
  • – Taking initiative and following through
  • – Working across differences with openness and respect
  • – Supporting one another in the process

PACE is a remote organization that offers flexibility in how work gets done, with shared core hours for collaboration. This position requires periodic travel for member meetings, team gatherings, and other events, typically 3–4 trips per year.

PACE is committed to pluralism and racial equity and encourages candidates from diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and lived experiences to apply.
